The Heart of the Harvest: Why Thanksgiving is the Ultimate Veyve's Table
Share
Welcome back to Veyve's Table!
With Thanksgiving fast approaching, I wanted to step away from the business logistics and talk about the holiday that truly defines my passion for baking, cooking, and sharing. If Miss Veyve's is built on the concept of gift-giving through great food, then Thanksgiving is the grand finale of the year.
The Legend of "Aunty Perfect"
Growing up, Thanksgiving was always a massive, glorious event at my Aunt’s house, we lovingly nicknamed her "Aunty Perfect." The celebration wasn't just a dinner; it was an all-day culinary marathon. We often had over 20 people gathered, and the food? It was spectacular.
Imagine a buffet line that seemed endless: perfectly carved ham and turkey, creamy mac and cheese, my beloved cheesy potatoes, fluffy mashed potatoes drowning in gravy, savory stuffing, and a dessert table laden with pies, cakes, and everything in between. Our breakfast was literally appetizers to lead up to the feast! It wasn't just a meal; it was a testament to family, abundance, and the joy of sharing.
The Annual Culinary Challenge
In memory of those amazing feasts, and to fully immerse myself in the spirit of the season, I now take the entire Thanksgiving week off from my full-time job. This time is dedicated to the kind of joyous, focused culinary work that feeds my soul.
We've since moved my celebration to my husband's Aunt's house, I have happily taken over the role of Head Chef. This allows me to tackle my favorite annual challenge: the Turkey. I spend the day before dry brining it, a key step for incredibly juicy meat, and then tailor the seasoning blend based on my mood that year. I think the classic, aromatic Garlic Lemon Herb blend remains my all-time favorite!
Nostalgia, Refined
Many of the side dishes I create are intentional nods to my childhood, refined with a Miss Veyve's touch:
-
Sweet Potato Casserole: This is pure nostalgia—fluffy, buttery mashed sweet potatoes with a crumble on top, crowned with perfectly toasted marshmallows.
-
Green Bean Casserole: No canned soup here! I make mine completely from scratch. The process of whisking the silky, earthy mushroom soup and layering in the crunchy, homemade fried onions makes all the difference. It's truly to die for.
- Sausage and Apple Stuffing: I know it sounds weird, but I promise, it's delicious. Small chunks of granny smith apple and savory sausage in a sage and garlic stuffing is truly a highlight to my meal.
Sharing the Harvest with My Community
Thanksgiving week is also the busiest time for Miss Veyve's pre-orders. I am honored to bake rolls, pies, and special desserts for my customers—it feels incredible to contribute to their own family tables and traditions.
Right now, I am grateful that I get to work two jobs: one that supports my life, and one that feeds my soul. The dream is that one day, baking and feeding others will be my primary form of work, allowing me to focus entirely on Miss Veyve's. But until then, I am more than happy dedicating this precious time to the people I love and the community that supports me.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving full of love, laughter, and enough delicious food to make you pause and appreciate every single bite.
